FDR's warning: Public employee unions a no-no

As things heat up in Wisconsin, here is a great article from last year about FDR's warning: Public employee unions a no-no
"... Meticulous attention should be paid to the special relationships and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the government. All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations ... The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for ... officials ... to bind the employer ... The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives ...

"Particularly, I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the functions of any organization of government employees. Upon employees in the federal service rests the obligation to serve the whole people ..."

My in-laws run a carpet/upholstery cleaning and restoring biz.

A woman called a few weeks back and asked "Do you blow ducts?"

"Lady, I've never even kissed a duck!" replied the father in law.

It Certainly Does

I wish American leaders could be this frank.
ANY attack on Opposition Leader Tony Abbott for claiming "sometimes shit happens" in Afghanistan is unjustified because Australia's top commander in the region immediately agrees by claiming "it certainly does".

That's the view of the Australia Defence Association, whose members include serving and retired soldiers, after viewing controversial footage aired by the Seven Network tonight.

The footage shows Mr Abbott discussing a gunfight that occurred in August last year that claimed the life of Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney.

The Liberal leader is talking in Tarin Kowt six weeks later with the commander of Australia's Middle East forces, John Cantwell, and US commander Jim Creighton.

Colonel Creighton says of the digger's death: "Was it tragic? Absolutely. But we're all in the knowledge that all the stuff (firepower support) you see here and more was available on the day."

In response, Mr Abbott says: "It's pretty obvious that, well, sometimes shit happens, doesn't it."

Immediately, Major General Cantwell replies: "It certainly does, yeah."

Ascii Art Google

I was trying to explain ASCII art to someone. I googled up some examples and imagine my surprise as the google logo was rendered as ASCII art on the search results page.

Cool!

Here's the search that brought it up: Google search for ASCII ART PICTURES

[Turns out this is old news. I guess it has been 10+ years since I thought of ASCII art, so it is new to me.]

Anti Red Light Traffic Propaganda Image I Made

I cooked this up for a page against automated traffic enforcement cameras.

Tom Servo VS Mike Servo

Based on some silliness in the comments over at Boing Boing.
(So as to avoid suit, I should acknowledge that I have no reason to believe the pictured chef is actually Mike Servo.)

Yes, I was channeling the below, from South Park.
